# Detailed Guide for WiFi Setup on D-Link DIR-842
Prerequisites
Ensure your D-Link DIR-842 router is powered on and connected to your computer via Ethernet cable or via Wi-Fi.Obtain the default IP address, username, and password for the router: -
Default IP Address: 192.168.0.1

Default Password: (leave blank)
Step-by-step Instructions
1. Access the Router Admin Panel
- Open Web Browser: Launch a web browser on your computer (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.).
- Enter Router IP Address: In the browser’s address bar, type http://192.168.0.1 and press Enter.
2. Login to Admin Panel
- Login Prompt: A login page will appear.
- Input Credentials: Enter the following credentials:

Username: Admin

Password: (leave this field blank)
- Click Login: Press the Login button to access the admin panel.
3. Start the Setup Wizard
- Locate Setup Wizard: After logging in, you will be directed to the router’s main status page. Look for the Setup Wizard option on the left menu panel.
- Select Setup Wizard: Click on the Setup Wizard link to launch the configuration wizard.
4. Configure WiFi Settings
- Welcome Screen: The Setup Wizard will start. Click Next to proceed.
- Internet Connection Setup:
- If prompted, select your Internet connection type (usually Dynamic IP if connecting directly to a modem). Click
Next.
- Wireless Settings:
- You will reach the
Wireless Settings page:

Wireless Network Name (SSID): Change this to your desired WiFi name to easily identify your network.

Wireless Mode: Set to
802.11b/g/n for compatibility with most devices.

Security Mode: Choose
WPA2-PSK for better security.

WPA Pre-Shared Key: Enter a strong password for your WiFi.
- Click Next: After entering your settings, click Next to continue.
- Final Review: Review your settings on the summary page.
- If everything looks good, select
Apply Settings to save the configuration.
- Reconnect WiFi: After applying the settings, you may need to reconnect to your new WiFi using the new SSID and password.
5. Confirm WiFi Configuration
- Check Connection: Ensure your device can connect to the newly configured WiFi network using the SSID and password you set up.
