Factory Reset Guide for D-Link DIR-842

Soft Reset via Admin Panel

1. Log in to 192.168.0.1 with admin credentials.

1. Navigate to Management > Reboot for a soft reboot, or Management > Factory Default for a full reset.

1. Click Restore Factory Default and confirm.

1. The router will reboot — wait 90 seconds.

Hard Reset via Physical Button

1. Verify the DIR-842 is powered on (Power LED solid).

1. Locate the RESET pinhole on the rear panel.

1. Insert a paperclip and hold for 10 seconds until the Power LED turns red or amber.

1. Release the button.

1. Wait 60-90 seconds for the reboot to complete.

1. Connect via Ethernet and navigate to 192.168.0.1. Login with Admin (blank password).

Post-Reset Checklist

1. Set admin password immediately (Management > Admin).

1. Reconfigure your SSID names and Wi-Fi passwords.

1. Disable WPS under Settings > Wireless.

1. Re-apply port forwarding rules.

1. Update firmware to the latest version.
