Quick Start & WiFi Configuration for the ASUS RT-AC68U

Learn how to configure the default gateway, change SSID settings, and secure your wireless network on the ASUS RT-AC68U router.

Accessing the Web Interface

1. Connect your computer to one of the LAN ports of the ASUS RT-AC68U using an Ethernet cable, or connect to the default Wi-Fi network name printed on the bottom label.

1. Open a web browser and type the default IP address: [192.168.1.1](/ips/rt-ac68u-ip).

1. On the login portal, enter the factory default credentials:

- Username: admin
- Password: admin

Configuring Your Wireless Settings

1. Once logged in to the dashboard, locate the Wireless Settings menu.

1. Set your custom Network Name (SSID) for both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

1. Choose your encryption security type. We recommend selecting WPA2-PSK (AES) or WPA2/WPA3 Mixed for high-strength protection.

1. Enter a secure Wi-Fi password (pre-shared key). Learn more on [how to change WiFi password](/change-wifi-password).

1. For best speeds, set your 5GHz channel width to 80MHz and channel to Auto.

1. Click Save or Apply to write settings. Reconnect your devices with your new credentials.

Hardening Network Security

Go to the Security tab and disable WPS to prevent PIN cracking tools from accessing your network.

Enable the SPI Firewall to block malicious inbound ping packets.

Set up a isolated Guest Network for smart home devices to keep them separated from your main network.

Reset and Maintenance

Go to System Tools > Firmware Upgrade to check for security updates.
